How does a Chinese Elm react to dead wood.
I cant find any recomendation against it but i cant realy find anybody who does it either.

in general, deciduous trees have wood that is to soft to have long lasting deadwood. in traditional japanese bonsai, hardly any of them have deadwood. I think that besides prunus spp. deadwood is less accepted.
