I have a white flowering Hawthorn bonsai tree. Firstly Id like some branches lower down the trunk. I've been watching videos on maple grafting and have seen people also grafting scions of fruit trees. My mother has a red flowering Hawthorn tree and I am wondering if it is possible to graft some scions of her tree onto mine?

Yes. It should be possible. However, grafting is not an easy procedure. And now is certainly not the time to attempt it. Wait till late winter. Ideally, you have the bonsai-to-be already waking up from winter, and the donor plant still dormant.
