I have this weird thought hammering inside my mind...
Ficus are soooo forgiving with beginners abuse, it is almost impossible to kill them. But every single bonsai site say "start with a Ficus".
Chopping it hard, pruning it at the wrong season, defoliating it tree times a year, lack of good soil, lack of good lighting, using it as an "inside" tree, overwatering it, underwatering it, a Ficus takes it ALL.
So, when the newbies think they are already experts (their Ficus survived after all!) and try to do the same on another species, death of the plant is the usual response. Sometimes just changing the location of the tree can kill it!
That is why I think a less forgiving plant will teach you faster how important is good and constant care of your bonsai, isn't it?
