I think I have a crash for maples...
Today I collected this pseudoplatanus. Swet, blood, nettle, and even I fall in the nearby creek with one leg, but I took it with almost complete rootball. The car need an interior wash badly..
The roots where already above ground, due to flooding of the area not long time ago. I’ve found interesting that almost “neagari” style, so I kept like this. The top stub already died back, and have a nice leader looking branch just in good position.

That one is Seramis, compost, pine mulch, peat and pumice. Looks okay for that pot & plant combo, but still have his own motherland soil also.

Why noone jump on me, how I’m an idiot to bonsai-ing a Sycamore maple? :whistle:

I don't really want to sound an alarmist, but most, if not all of the components of your mix hold water, and this can lead to some problems in the future...

Yes, they do Seramis is more like some hard quality Akadama, so that one less. I believe that I can water manage like this, and avoiding from a freshly collected material to go 100% inorganic. Maybe it’s too soon for that tree to be completely dependent on how I doses the fertilizer. When it’ll be in a bonsai pot, it’ll get bonsai soil and I’ll watering it like a bonsai, but we have a long road ahead to there.

Maybe because people realize you do your homework, and can be as stubborn as, well.. me when I was starting out? I have unsuitable maples growing out the garden. Or maybe had. The drought (Which broke this weekend!) has taken some trees in the ground with them. I think mine is toast.

Sometimes I’m a bit late with that homework, but at least the “next one” from the same species will be okay. Yep, I’m stubborn, but not ignorant

What you all think about the tree itself? I have my own imagination on his look, but always good to hear experienced opinions about. Like I’m not sure if my trunk size is suitable for a proportionate leaf reduction in the future, or if I should change the position of the trunk to encourage different movement on the growth.

That tree is dead. Or my Mom didn’t watered it properly, or what I worried from : the timing. I needed to dig up in the moment, cause if it’s not me, the workers do with their machines. Ah well... Bummer..

You’re right. But I must tell, she’s really good to nursing back just any animal to healt, but she’s a black thumb. I told to her the same, that was the timing, and she’s nothing did wrong.
