By "tile" you mean penjing tray?
If yes, I prefer white as it is classic choice for penjings and look the best I think.
I use grey marble slabs cause I cannot get my hands on proper penjing trays around here.
But I have seen blue and black trays as well, for me most of them were too colourful but som looked good when blue tray was used and the most place on it was to represent water....that might work too.

Two months in nutshell. Still 2D and ugly af, but I can see some future amelioration. (I try to use same angle images for the comparison)

29 June, Most of the leaves dropped, but new growth is visible
