For time out of mind we have been saying that roots need air to breathe, and that soil should be well drained. Now 名媛直播Empire's home page has a thing about aqua bonsai, where a tree is in a little pot of water with absolutely no air. There is just something here that doesn't seem to go together.
Can somebody explain? What is the difference between keeping a tree in a glass pot full of water and keeping a tree in a ceramic pot with no hole?

I think aquaponics are well known. Many plants CAN be grown in a water-saturated system once the roots have been adjusted for such environment. I thiknk the problem with plants in pots is that these are not grown to deal with it.

Good question. I think there's a difference between soil that stays too wet and just water.
In soil, things can live that can't live in water alone.
Root rot can be caused by a fungus that lives in the soil. I guess it can't live in water alone. Same for certain bugs.

I haven't tried aquaponics with bonsai before, but I do practice it with microgreens. I'm using a small hydroponic garden, it's neat, have a fish in the water tank too (
) but this wouldn't be appropriate for bonsai, that's for sure. If any of you can recommend an aquaponic garden for bigger plants, I'd be grateful. Took quite a while to find this one, don't want to spend weeks searching online again, a few suggestions could help.
