The tree is taller than the house right now, and in the front yard, so I don't think it would be real popular for me to try air layering it. I know what happened when I air layered the cherry in the back yard, and I think that the reaction in the front yard would not be positive. Cuttings it will have to be.
Air layering dont have to be huge and ugly:
Who would have a bad reaction ?n that?

Hm.. Guess I will have to put this also on a random website.
But yeah, knowing where the idea comes frmo can give you some idea in whether it makes sense. I sometimes also read website, laugh and walk away.

I just took the cuttings yesterday and was planning on putting them outside under one of the benches. They will get some sun there but never direct sun, and temperatures will be 60F-80F/15-25C or so for the foreseeable future.
Are the zip loc bags necessary? I don't have any big enough and don't plan on going to the store anytime soon. Humidity around here runs 50% at night to 80% during the day, which might be good enough.
Where they sit will get the daily watering, and of course rain. Right now we are at about 220% of normal for this year and that seems to be keeping up.

My maples are outside under the benches. My black pines are shaded in the greenhouse, next to my raintree cuttings. Morning sunshine for an hour or two.

There was a severe cold snap right before I got all the cuttings, but the weather from now on looks like warm followed by the usual summer hot.
So, try again? Just like before? It seems like I should do something different if I want different results.
