This is my third planting but never with sprouted seeds before. They are Japanese Sakura - Cherry Blossom (Prunus Serraluta). So I am unsure whether the sprout is the root or the tree section meaning up or down into the soil. I know this is a rookie question, but please indulge me with your wisdom.

Never mind. After I pulled the sprout out of the stratification soil the answer was evident. My rush countered common sense and investigation. Apologies.

You had a root in the soil?

Did it break or did you manage to plant it?

I was able to save it by loosening the ground around it and pulling it straight up when I saw the root. I then replanted it in a small make shift greenhouse with the appropriate aggregate and soil.

Seeds seems to know quite well what is up or down. They allways send roots down no exception. The best thing to do is proboably just det them grow. Small seedlings are very sensitive to disturbance.
