Hi. I am thinking about growing a bonsai forest. I thought about cultivating an area of soil on my property 5x10 feet and using saplings from trees in my yard and trimming them like a small bonsai but let them get 5 or 6 feet tall. Any ideas or thoughts? I've never done bonsai but I'm used to tree and shrub trimming and care.?

It can be done. It will not be a bonsai, but it can be done. I have grown a japanese black pine forest from seeds in my garden. It is 9 years old this year and I think it needs at least 20 more years to fulfill my goals with it.

The term you need to investigate is niwaki. A totally different hobby, but also very fun.
