I bought this little azalea when I first got into bonsai about a year ago, and it was obviously just a little bush when I bought it (from Home Depot) I'm surprised that it has survived all the rookie mistakes I've made with it and I would just like to get some opinions and some feed back on what I've finally came to be content with. Would would you do differently? Should I just let it grow freely throughout the next growing season? And I'm planning on putting it ino a bonsai pot this spring. Any feedback on that? Every post I make is open to complete scrutiny and criticism. Please share your thoughts! Thanks!

looks good for your first hard prune. when you repot put it in a slightly larger pot than one that fits the tree.you will want to get good growth on it next season so a high nitrogen fert will be best with minimal pruning. try to leave some of the dirt on the roots so not to shock too much...azalea have delicate roots. lastly take off any flower buds that start forming they will only slow down growth.

Hey man, thanks! I appreciate the reply! Do you have any suggestions on fert I can acquire from Lowes/home depot/ wal mart? If I have to, I can order online. I have never fertilized any of material.. Guess its time to start reading up on it!

There are TONS of information and articles online about fertilizing. I just use a standard chemical fertilizer from Lowes and take it down to about half strength. Depending on how well your soil drains and your watering, you can fertilize each week or every other week. Just pay attention to how your tree is responding so you don't burn it up.

Thanks, bud. I appreciate it.. I'll have to check it out. So every week/other week for how long? The entire growing season?
