Hello, i've read a lot sites and few books about bonsai and i decided to buy a juniper. I found at my nearest garden centre Juniperus x media (referred as chinensis) ,,Blaauw". It was pretty cheap . Does it have any future, or should i air layer the strongest trunks and put them to garden and wait few years ? I had a plan with it but the main trunk would need graft lower.

I'm pretty new to bonsai my self
And only have a baby juniper I can't even style yet but I would either do a informal upright or I'd go with a semi cascade
Or if you wanted to be daring go full cascade
Those can be challenging tho
Juniper are also really cool with lots of dead wood and Jin

I would plant it in the garden for 2 years and start working on it to be a literati multitrunk, so I would select 2,3 or 5 trunks and give them initial wiring and trim.
But if you go that way study literati forms first, take your time, leave it to grow in the ground and get back to it in few months.
I am not sure if this variety is a good choice though

So it could be nice, you can use it as an example of what to trim.
And when you develop an eye for it you can give the trunks some nice movement .

Thanks for examples for the tree, i thought about putting it in the garden too but on my second garden there is very alkaline soil so i dont know.
I am adding photos if the worst trunks, which are ,,falling" to the other side. These i will air layer probably.

I do not see any point in air layering such a tiny branches when you can buy already developped young plants that you can work on for a few bucks.

I ve made some ,,high res" virtuals with usable trunks :lol: On the top one will need cut a little if wood and make it straight and from the second trunk make Jin a plant it probably excentrically to a low and wide grey or black pot.

This is not happening and highly unrealistic for somebody who is new to bonsai.
