Let's be fair, eight to twelve is probably closer unless you're trying to fail.
I mean, that's about how long my mallsai live and they're just on the windowsill, so...
But yeah, it all goes a lot easier if you start off with a plant that takes better to the indoors, or just putting the thing outside.

Juniper indoors will last untill someone puts on airconditioning (huh, what is that!) or the heater. The air moisture content changes drastically, and tyhe juniper gets crisped.

It is right that junipers often stay green so long after they die, that many a mallsie sold by the nice asian gentelman might in fact be dead, right?

of course it is improper care that kills them... but there are many people who sell juniper cuttings as "indoor bonsai" who recommend dunking the whole pot in water to water the plant. If they are recommending improper care.. maybe they are doing the same.. that's what I was thinking.

It's like buying flowers. You put them in a vase and they look pretty for a while. Eventually they'll die. That's expected, they are not supposed to last long.
Seems the same with these 'indoor' junipers. They die, eventually. It is too be expected. This will usually be after a fairly long period, and the owner is going to blame himself and won't go back to the seller. It's the perfect crime.

Not if you're using a terrarium! Even an open-topped one is pretty good for holding moisture in if there's a body of water in it. I've kept Anubias emersed in such a setup.
... A setup that costs more than the mallsai itself, mind, and does little to address the problem of winter dormancy. Even so, I do have to wonder why they aren't used more often in the hobby for tropicals.
