Hello, I was just wondering about something & I thought it might be beneficial to reach out to the rest of the community (along with doing my own research at home) regarding types of trees suitable for bonsai. There is a long list of trees that are perfectly well suited for it on this website, but I was curious about if there were any “oddballs” not included on the list that might be OKAY even if they aren’t ideal for it, but that wouldn’t be incredibly difficult either. I’m not planning on trying to tackle anything too complicated (since I’m literally just beginning), but I thought that I might want to branch out & experiment a little bit later on & maybe try my hand with less conventional trees or shrubs. Right now, I have a little ficus and I’m learning with that. I wondered if it would be possible later on to use a fruiting ficus variety like Celeste or Chicago Hardy though. Is that a feasible thing to attempt (just as an experiment) or will the leaves stay too big? I know fruit doesn’t really shrink just because you bonsai a tree, but can you shrink the leaves on those types of ficus?

Any species can become a nice bonsai. For beginners it is good to look around what grows locally in forests and gardens and go for those species.

Yes, you can shrink leaves, however this Fig tree you mentioned is one of the worst Ficus species to use for 名媛直播, it's hard to achieve proportion, even more for begginners...

Yes, there are a few nice speciments, but they are not common (The reason is kind of simple if you think about it).
Seems like most people who chooses this species, are more into it's fruiting property, and not much into the illusion of an old tree on a small scale...

I wouldn't recommend people to choose a species for it's fruits, you should consider fruits as a bonus...
Aim for species that are adapted or native to your climate, with small leaves... Those should be more begginer friendly.
