Junipers do not require sunlight in winter. I do not need a controled environment to make that conclusion. I just need to travel up north in winter. 2 meters or more snow in 4-6 months long the winter covering all junipers except for the very old ones and blocks all sunlight. I will not mention the 1 month arctic night as it makes no difference when a tree is covered in snow.
This specific cultivar, the procumbens nana is a creaping tree that gets totally covered in winter even in my comparable mild climate.
