Verticillium Wilt was created by Jamminsalmon

Hello all,
I've had a smoke bush for a couple of growing seasons now. I started getting these red leaf margins last year and they returned this year again with some additional discoloration that has me concerned. I looked at symptoms online and I suspect that this may be verticillium wilt, but I wanted to get some pictures up here in case this is familiar enough for anyone to confirm.

The leaves are not brittle and I have yet to inspect the roots. In the attached images you may notice some darkening in the cross section of a cut I made, this has been my greatest concern.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can chime in.

Well, I'm still learning about smoke bush. Online information is a little bit harder to find on this species. There are quite a few growing locally and the red leaf margins on my plant seem to stand out in comparison. For reference, the specific cultivar I have is "cotinus coggygria lilla".

When googling my cultivar I don't really find a lot of resemblance to my red leaf margins either. Example images lead me to believe that a healthy smoke bush will have leaves of a mostly solid color (red, green, or purple depending on season).

When I started doing some research on discolored leaf margins, I ended up finding a number of sources attributing this to verticillium wilt. Apparently this is a fungal issue that many deciduous variety are quite vulnerable to, a major symptom of which, is darkening of the inner portions of branch?and trunk.?

The image I posted above with the cutting in hand is what has me concerned as it seems to resemble just that, but at this point I'm hoping to consult with those who have more experience here. Does any of this stand out to you as concerning??
