I would not dare to disturb the roots at this point. I would rather treat the unknown plant as a weed and cut it by the base.

Pines are temperate or subtropical trees depending on species. They must be grown outdoors. Indoors they will die sooner or later.?

@Tropfrog

Thanks for your response, do you think i need to get it outside at this point??

I live in the UK, so weather is a bit unpredictable especially when it comes to the rain etc.

I live in wonderful western Sweden. I think weather is just as unpredictable here. But pines do not really care about forecasts or predictability. They cannot understand the concept nor act on them. Most pines are well rooted in the ground and cannot move to take cover from rain even if they wish. In fact, they love the rain, the unfiltered sun, the wind and temperature fluctuations. Simply put, the conditions they have evolved in for milions of years. It started long before there were even heated houses or people that could emotionally feel bad for them beeing outdoors.

I have a yearly precipitation that is 50% higher than London and yearly average temperature that is 40% lower. I would never consider keeping pines indoors in livingroom condition. Not at any time of the year.

Do you know what species of pine you have?

Yes. Pines do germinate and grow their first years outdoors. Now that it has germinated indoors it may not be ready for full sun. I would suggest to move it into a shaded spot outdoors and slowly move it into more sun as it adapts to the environment. Once in full sun, just leave it there for good.

Japanese black pines are totally hardy in UK and well adapted to wet conditions. I have 5 of them outdoors year round in Sweden.

Answering Topfrog's question: in our club there are quite a few who showed up, then got a tree (then another...), and have been members for a while. I don't think anyone has shown up saying they just got some seeds.

The best introduction,? IMHO, is join a club, watch and ask questions.
