Hi! I was given a beautiful Ligustrum a couple of weeks ago and I am a complete novice of bonsai. I notice the roots are coming out of the small pot which tells me it should be reppotted but it is almost summer! The leaves started falling on one side, but I also see new sprouts a bit all around. I see that I haven't yet figured out where in the house this tree is happiest - I don't have a south facing window, just West facing windows. There is a lot of brightness in the room, and the setting sun can be quite strong. I don't know if should keep the tree catching this sun or not. Help!!

Ligusturum sinense? It is a warm temperate species. So it should be outdoors when your climate alows it.
I tried indoors overwintering on mine the first year. Unheated basement at 10-12 degrees in an east facing window. It did not do very well. Next year and all years after that it has been in 5 degrees overwintering room in full southern exposure. It does great there.
The tree is amazingly easy to grow from cuttings so now I have about 30 of them.
I live in coastal sweden. Summer temperatures do not go as high as it likes. So now I have all my chinese privets in the greenhouse all year round.
The roots growing out of the pot is not any issue. Root pruning is part of the hobby. Just take them off. No reason for repotting in the wrong time of the year.
