Hi all,
I?gifted this bonsai and it appears to be dying. I’ve moved it to the bathroom so it gets more humidity and have scratch tested the bark to check it is still alive but not sure what to do next to help save it.
A couple of people have suggested it looks like it should be outdoors??
Nina?

You have had answers on Facebook. It looks like a Chinese Pepper, it should be outside at least until it gets a lot colder, it looks very dry, which is part of the problem, it is impossible to water properly where it is in that tray. The? lack of light and water is the reason for the poor condition. I can't see if there are dead leaves or if they are drooping due to lack of water, but if there some you could remove them. Not sure which is the last picture but one of them has dead looking leaves.

Thanks - the answers on Facebook were mixed so trying to get a variety of views. Apparently when this was bought it was indoors rather than out at the garden centre which makes me wonder if it should really be outside? And it’s definitely not dry - if anything I was wondering if I’d overwatered. Close up, the leaves look dead rather than just droopy.?

Unlikely to be overwatered, far more likely not enough unless it is not draining well. I still think at least while it is not cold it should be outside, put it in a semi shaded spot, as it will need a transition form dark to light, and keep it well watered. Until there is possibility of frost and that is over a month away at least if not longer. Then it needs a cold room with as much light as possible south facing if possible but a greenhouse would be better.
