Hi,

We have a number of bonsai which we had to take to the Netherlands as my mother in law could not take care of them any more (and they have sentimental value). On two of them we discovered something of and we don't know what it is and if it is harmful.
Can anyone tell us what it is and what to do?

Looks like it might be candle eating caterpillars. Look on this site for more info, but a pesticide will take care of them be for they do any major damage to the tree.

I Googled "insects in pine trees" and guess it concerns pine sawfly

It is a type of moth, I think the pine webworm or related. They make shelters from silk covered in needle sections.

All the larvea are in the little tubes of needles. Collect those and your infection is gone. No need for bringin more insecticide into your garden, in my opinon.

I found caterpillars between the small stuff on the pictures and removed them. Thanks all for helping me
