It's an old Japanese Black Pine that needs to be repotted. Any idea what these are? Are they termites or carpenter ants??

I don't know what they are. They're definitely not termites, which are white. I don't think they have the sectioned body of an ant.

Pictures are a bit hard to see. Maybe make a close up.

I am thinking of some sort of thrips. (google " thrips fly " and look at the images.)

I would guess fungus gnats, if the soil is wet.
