Jabuticaba, and Brazilian Cherry help please - fungus? was created by LeoArouca

I am living in Perth - Australia and found a Brazilian Jabuticaba (image1), and Brazilian Cherry (Pitanga - image2).

Both trees are going really well and I have been doing my best to keep up with fertiliser/watering (fertiliser is a bit of a challenge since phosphorus rich ones are not easy to find here).

However, this morning I was sitting outside, took a closer look and spotted these 3 items (marked in the photos attached).

1. I am fairly certain it is leaf curl and from what I could read on the fungicide "liquid copper" it should take care of it. But I am uncertain about the quantity per litre (since pack does not show it due to Jabuticaba not being native here).

2 and 3 seem to be the same thing, but not sure if this is a disease or just normal, any thoughts?

Sorry but your images have not uploaded.

If it is just a leaf or two I would pluck them of and be done with it.

Attaching again, hopefully will work this time.

Thanks for the response, I think it is on about 20 leaves in total. I think the aphids caused this type of curling, I am mentioning this because I have removed quite a few recently with some natural spray, they were all in the new leaves as they were coming out and growing in the last 3-5 weeks.

Hm.. Not sure.

What is the weather like there? Could it not be caused by dry air?
Maybe our resident Brazilian can chime in. Clicio???

The weather here has been quite dry over summer (and very hot too), mind you I did put some cover for them to protect from extreme heat.

Thanks!

I have been keeping the soil moist at and watering as it dries on the surface, but cannot do much about the hot air... my Japanese maple suffered this summer :(.

I will do another comprehensive check on the Jabuticaba tree, specially new foliage. I read on a bonsai material online that aphids are quite common on the new leaves (when they are still pink and very delicate) and they can cause this kind of curling apparently. If I find more, I will spray again.

But still clueless as to what is causing this whiteish layer on the leaves of both trees.

Hello, I happen to have both species here in my garden.
Usually the whitish residue is due to the quality of the water. I have switched to rain water due to our hard water here in Sao Paulo, and got rid of this problem and some other related issues also.
I am not sure your case is the same, that's only my experience here.
Good luck!

Hi Clicio,

Thanks for the reply. I would say it could be the water then, not only 45% of our tap water is from desalinisation, but also upon inspecting taps around the house I can see calcium forming around them.

Cheers!

Just to complete the and close this topic, in the last 2 days I noticed that the leaves on the Jabuticaba tree started showing the "sticky" symptom. Did some reading here:

www.bonsaiempire.com/forum/pests-and-dis...sticky-bonsai-leaves

Further inspection of the leaves (in particular the new pink ones), I found the little aphids inside.

And also googled some stuff and found this product:

That I have now applied and waiting to see the results. I removed the most attacked and curly leaves as a precaution too.

Thank you all
