I haven’t seen anybody with this problem. I have yew I have been working on. The main trunk is about 2 inches/5 cm thick. Yesterday I found woodpecker holes in the trunk. Fortunately they are in the back of the trunk, but the bird may come back.
Can I plug the holes up?
Can I scare the bird away?

I pressume woodpeckers hammer a tree looking for food. Bugs etc. hidden under the bark. Maybe you should examine your tree for bugs or others things living on your tree, if there is no food, I would think the bird will stay away
