Hey, I'm new to bonsai, ive got my elm growing really quickly and it seems pretty damn vigorous. it was wobbling in the pot when I purchased it, now its sturdy and growing fast. However a few random leaves are yellow and a select few are browing/have cuts?I tried to take some photos I will attach them below. Any idea if I should try fix them or just leave the tree to be a tree?

Hey, I live northern hemisphere, specifically UK if this helps. It is inside when overnight because its been frosting recently so I avoid that. but during the day about 10 degrees. I use Biogold solid fertiliser

10 degrees in the day and 20 in the night is the total opposite of what trees has evolved with and very stressful to them. If you want to protect your tree during frost nights, put them in a frost free shed or cold frame, never indoors.

I dont see any urgent issue with the tree. They are decidious and loose all their leafs in the winter. If your tree have not had any proper winter it will need to shed its leafs in order to grow new ones.

I have not had any elm in leaf all year round thou.

well in that case thankyou very much, I was not alarmed by the yellowing leaves, I simply saw the foliage go brown and I immediately began to panic and assume the worst.

I guess with experience I will learn to calm down my worry. I have a few books on the way which I hope will help.

Your tree is a chinese elm, not a zelkova. This should help in care instructions.

If left outside in fall, these are frost resistent to -10c without concerns. I left mine in the -15 winter in a fee standing shed.

The dropping of leaves seems to be affecting mostly the older leaves. It seems that we have passed the worst of winter, once frost clears, put it outside and leave it there. It should pick up speed as the days warm up.

Thankyou so much for the assurance that my tree is not dying. See I was a bit confused because when I purchased the tree its 'passport' said Zelkova but the bark and leaf shape seemed too much like a chinese elm to me.

Anyhow thankyou for the heads up and the tip, ill be sure to pop the tree outside soon.
