Before we left town for three weeks this cherry tree had aphids, which I treated with a systemic. Now this has appeared. It looks a lot like a picture of a rose with rosette virus, which scares me a little. Is there anything to do besides cut this off?
This particular tree was dug up last year. I wired a couple of branches to get direction, but left them all long, intending to cut them off next year or so. This piece is 30 or 40 cm from the trunk, so losing it will not be tragic.

I'm sure no botanist but i would cut it off generously. Maybe isolate from other trees to avoid spreading?
