Hello fellow bonsai owners!

A long time ago my sageretia has been fighting like a champ. I did the scrape test and it- Infact is - still alive. Long story short: I lately noticed some bugs crawling on the surface of the soil, and turns out that they're fungus gnat larvae. This also gives me bad vibes, that there is probably some kind of fungal infection on the roots. How do I get rid of them? I never had issues with my bonsai.

(Will attach pics if needed)

please attach pictures.

Fungus gnats are an indication of soil that stays too wet, too long. Letting it dry out more would be a solution, although your tree might not like drying out..

You can use a substrate without organic matter, then fungus gnats/larvae won't have a place to lay eggs or have stuff to eat.
For my indoor plants i use 1cm of split granite ontop of the soil.

One of my indoor ficussus as example.

I know that, I'm working on getting it as dry as possible. At this stage (all leaves yellow and falling off) would it be better just to put it out of its misery and get another one?

can't see the tree, so cannot tell. But if you have trouble with this one, and do not know how to fix it.. how is getting another plant going to help you. You cannot toss a plant away every time you have trouble.
