Atleast I've germinated many of them
Depends on your goal. For something like this it would be only about 800 years, give or take a few years.

Ah... there's a topic about the progression of this tree with all the details.
It came from the camping where my parents have had a caravan since I was a young kid.
I'm not sure how old it was when they acquired it and how long they have had it. I got it and have been training it since 2001 so if I have to guess I'd say it's probably about 40 years old.

Again, it depends on your goal. If you go for a smaller size bonsai, it will be quicker.
If you want to grow a decent tree, it will still take years to develop a decent starter plant.
Have a look here, it shows some examples:
From this page:
"A common bonsai question is: "How long does it take to create a bonsai?" I usually answer: "It depends upon the situation!" If you start with a seedling or newly rooted cutting using temperate climate plants, it will probably take about 30 years to create a bonsai representing a mature natural tree"
I have a juniper cutting that I wired for practice. The cutting is 2 years old now. With a few more years of growth it may become a cute little plant - which I personally still wouldn't call a bonsai.
