Hi Guys,
This is a spruce I collected/saved from a beautiful dead spruce stump a few years ago, it was very near death with only a couple of shoots growing actively.
I've left it alone in this Styrofoam box for about 4 years now and this year its doing very well. I'll repot it next spring and I might do some cutting back this winter just so I can get more buds lower down. As you can see there is not much branching usable yet but the trunk, the nebari and the taper are beautiful. What do you guys think? Are there any methods I can use to help get budding lower down or do you think I should abandon that idea and work on a bigger tree ?

This is a very difficult piece of material. Very straight branches. I don't think it will back bud lower down, so I would go for a bigger tree. I would probably go with the branches that are flexible so they can be bent, the thick one in the middle I might consider removing that one.?

My idea was to remove that middle branch, maybe making it a jin, but I'm using it and all the other branches to keep the tree healthy for now the big branch on the right ( considering the first picture) or we could call it the main trunk, I'm also going to make that a big Jin then the trunk going to the left i was going to make it the new leader, the problem is the first bud on that branch is a bit to high although there is many buds growing straight from the trunk.
my idea was to keep trunk chopping it yearly and force it to back bud as much as possible and then see what I can work with.
ps: there is still a few young branches sprouting from behind the base of the right trunk
