howdy y'all

this weekend i picked up a little something from a bonsai show and sale in rochester,ny it does need alot of work and due to the large caliper of the 2 main trunks this will have to do alot of upward growth to pull off the perspective, but the hard part is done(roots are reduced nicely)and it looks great at a distance

Wow this looks great!

It's hard to see from the picture but are there large cuts on the tops of the main trunks? if so, do you plan to jin them like they were struck by lightning? I havent seen a group planting like this without it being finished already so im curious how one goes about styling this initially.

It is a good start, just needs a slab and some work on the trees, will be good.

the larger ones were cut but it was done really well.the tallest has 2 branches and the leader growing on 3 sides so it is healing well.the second was wedge cut and a branch was bent up to become the leader it is a deap scar but not very large ...
this year it will be left alone it has been in this pot for 2 years and a repot will be done next spring. alot of the branches are very strait and unappealing the larger ones will be cut back to almost nothing and rebuilt . there are also some lower branches that are too low and are there just for base thickening that will be airlayered in 2 seasons . the trees need at least another foot of height to pull off the perspective so the leaders will be left to grow. at the moment i have 2 other american larch that will be grown and styled to be eventually added to the mix i am shooting for 11 to 15 in the final composition. i figure 5 to 7 years till this one is going in the right direction :P not sure if im going pot, slab or rock for this yet,but it will come in time

That sounds like a good plan, I think it would be nice on a slab, I have one and it is good. Also means there is no need to re pot. My slab was custom mad with fibreglass nice and light.
