I bought this young tamarind in a nursery close to three months ago and just had it grow. The shape caught my attention and I found it interesting for a cascade design or maybe a formal slanting -depending on the roots. Unfortunately, as we were studying the tree, we noticed that it had what we call a "hotdog" (a straight part of the trunk or branch) which we found unattractive.




We decided to take the hotdog off...






but it did not look right so we reduced this so that the primary branch may grow and hopefully taper more by growing... and so this is how it will look while training. The vision is a cascading tamarind on a rock.

you have a nice start there. this is proof even not so great stock CAN be made into something.

I have more than 20 tamarinds in packets, bought from a nursery. I managed to kill one while transplanting it. I am scared to repot the others into training pots, for fear of killing them again. They are in large 20 liter bags.
Did you bareroot your tamarind from the packet or you just planted it like this?
How do You reduce the tap root? At ones or in stages?
What percentage of the roots do you remove?
when is the best time to do it?
And last what is your after care?
Any thing else that will assure the survival of my tree after repot will be appreciated.
