I've not done that myself before, but of course, others have, so there are good instructions to be found:
Make sure you keep the original root ball untill enough new roots have formed to support the remaining branches.

Copied the photo, used magic wand to cut out the part I needed, rotated it, used flood fill to create a new background, clone brush... pretty basic. It's not a great sketch, I don't have the patience for it... but I guess it's good enough to demonstrate the idea.
i might even wait till next year before i start i have a few other air layers on at the moment, id like to see how they work first, but thank you for giving me a direction its much appreciated.
