Chinese Elm pruning advice

For my chinese elm, the biggest branch seems to have been grafted, i attached a photo.
The branch seems to be going inside the trunk with the bark going slightly over. The other two now almost dead branches also seem to have the bark over them. It is a bit strange, and i do not know why the graft was needed, chinese elms grow pretty fast. Maybe it had problems during winter.
