Hey everyone,
I just picked up this Chindo Viburnum from my local nursery. This is my first attempt at bonsai and based on my limited knowledge, this seemed like it would make a good candidate. I tried to find some information online about using viburnum as bonsai but I’ve found limited information. Does anyone have any experience using these as bonsai who could give me some tips? Will this type of plant respond to bonsai techniques such as leaf reduction?
As this is my first time, I would also like some tips on pruning/styling this specific tree. My plan is to chop of this entire lower branch that extends from the side of the base of the trunk, what do you think of this? Also, is wound paste necessary for a cut like this? And based on what I’ve read , I should stay away from any further pruning after a major cut like this, but is it okay to immediately wire the branches? Any further recommendations for pruning/styling this tree would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
