a sharp bend would definitely help. i've seen pictures of a pine floating around the internet with a smooth bend like this and almost no movement on the trunk that looks neat but man this just looks unpleasing to my eyes. lol i dont know if its just the fact that the other one is developed and mine is not.

If you go for this side maybe something like this. (put the wire better on the tree if you make a sharp bend)
