Wisteria & Vines (Thickening trunk) - X post was created by Clicio

Sorry for the Cross post, but...
Hello all,
I got this small Japanese wisteria (flowering, from a cutting) and now, end of the summer here, it's throwing vines all over.
As it grows fast, but the trunk is still thin, is letting the vines go crazy help thickening the trunk or should I prune them now?
The real question is, will the trunk thicken if I let it go wild?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Clicio. I have wisteria airlayer in the ground for a year and I can see some nice thickening and it is growing wild. Do not prune anything if you want thickening of the trunk and you?ll be surpised how fast you can get that trunk thicker :) Also provide lots of water to it. Even the branches on my wisteria doubled in thickness over one season. Even though I wanted it to be a garden tree and a source for more airlayers, it is starting to look so nice I am considering putting it into a bonsai pot next year maybe :P

Hey, Mimo, thanks!
It's amazing how fast the vines grow! Yeah, it's sitting inside a tray full of water, the thing is thirsty!
