Red Pine Cascade styling issues - T bar "problem" was created by Clicio
Posted 6 years 1 month ago #47985My Red Pine is healthy and growing well under the first not burning days of Autumn (it was horrible for almost 4 months of summer; 100?F and rains every day).
Trouble is, I need some ideas. I got it one year ago as a present from a good friend, that had grown it from seedling, so it was his styling.
From the beginning the double T bar branches bother me, but... I have been afraid of chopping them off and then regret it.
Could you give some nice ideas? The pictures below show the whole tree and the "problem".
Any comment welcome, as always!
Thanks in advance.

Posted 6 years 1 month ago #47986But if it bothers you:
- Cut off the right branch from the upper T
- Cut off the left branch from the lower T
- Re-wire, give the remaining branches some curves to get 'm closer to the trunk
- Fan out the foliage to fill the space

Posted 6 years 1 month ago #47994A nice looking tree now, or a good tree in 10 years you say?
I typically go for the good tree in 10 years. But I dislike pines so I have no mercy

Posted 6 years 1 month ago #47996Clicio, the thing is - if you leave more than one branch growing out of one place, it gets thicker over time and there might be bulges appearing at that spot that are not very good looking.
So it is up to you

I have some t branches on my pines too and I am thinking hard how to design the tree so I could remove one of the 2 branches.

Well.. Pines dislike me, and die. I have 1 left out of maybe 6 I owned in the last 8 years.

Posted 6 years 1 month ago #47999Mimo wrote: Yeah I know, 2 died on me already. But I think the reason was that I was a bit quick on them. They have to be developed extremely slowly compared to other species...I hope I learned my lesson. Now I will take my time with the rest of my pines, especially with the roots.
Seems I'm not having too many problems with 'm. They tolerate a lot. They tolerate me, so that must say something.
Just repotted a young tree, grown from seed, about 6 years old now. Neglected it, it was in a tiny, tiny pot that was completely filled with roots, no room left at all for anything else. Should've repotted it 2 years ago. It is still doing fine.
Best to neglect 'm a bit, I guess. Indeed go slow, don't do too much.
