will My juniper bonsai naturally grow larger in terms of height and trunk by just mainting it or do I need to plant it in the ground.

It will grow larger. The more space you give it to grow, the faster it will go though. In a bonsaidish you will onlybe able to notice increases over several years to decades.

Do you have a picture of the tree?
If it is young, put it in the ground as Leatherback has said.

I don’t think it is very young. I think I will leave it and give myself the challenge of simplymmaintaing it well for now.
