Hello all, I have a "ficus ginseng" bonsai plant.

I have been a bit rubbish so far and just let it grow on the window sill and it is now about a meter tall and the branches are having a field day - so it is pretty much a tree and not so much a bonsai.

To tame it back into a bonsai should or can I just cut all the branches right back down? Or is there some sort of method I should take up with it? Thanks

PS. I forgot I had a photograph on here - so the one that is my picture but it is probably twice or more that size now.

You can cut them down.

Before summer you can cut it quite aggressively. Leave a pair or two of leaves on the branches you choose to prune.

Thanks again, and final question for now - if you know - with the ficus ginsengs is there a preferential way that I should be cutting/pruning it? Or is it just a 'do whatever you feel like' sort of thing?

Please don't take it as an offence but the only style I can think of that suits a Ficus Ginseng is a "Ficus Ginseng Style".

Oh don't worry you won't offend me, be as honest as you want. I don't quite understand your reply though - do you mean they are just not good bonsais? Or just aesthetically you don't like them.
