I couldn?t resist this JBP from EBay and had to order it today as I love those raised exposed neagari roots on literati pines :P
So here is the pic and the plan.
Can?t wait to get it in my hands and style it :)
Downside is the young looking trunk, but if it won?t sell after I style it, I get nice and aged one in some 20 years
I paid 125 euros for it. It is 45cm in height.

It is a nice tree.

Is that how long it takes? 25 years for scaly bark?

I am surprised at the pricepoint. Good to know: i am growing some out and was going to thin them out. Once I do, I will put them in pots instead of composting themm.

I have no idea man, it was just a wild guess :)

But - why were you going to compost the ones you grew? If you give them good starting shape, well worth to do something with them.
I am planting some 18 small itoigawas in a month?s time and hopefully I get nice material for sale in some 2 - 3 years :)

The price for this pine might be a bit high, but I haven?t seen any similair one with such a nice neagari anywhere, so that is what made me to go for it :)
Also the rootball must be great in such a small pot.
SO I think this is gonna be nice tree in a few years :)

It will be an elegant dancer in a few years. And then.. In another decade a scraggy elegant dancer :)

I have a field in which I dump seeds and seedlings. And when it gets too dense, I spend a day diggin, pruning and tossing, replanting a bed. So the olders beds have maybe 10 trees left. The youngest just received hundreds of zelkova, larix and trident maple seeds :) And I have a bunch of pines which were too dense, which I trimmed back. But at some point a few need to go.

Nothing yet. But these are the oldest trees on there. Still building muscle.

Leatherback - not bad mate, not bad :)

I did the styling right after I got this tree so here is the result.
Although I am tempted to do as my last pic - virtual :D But it need a bit more time to cut back. I already did cut quite a lot. Or maybe I go the initial direction. I do not know now :D

You plucked a lot of needels off that tree. Hope it has a lot of vigor to recover from that.

I removed all old needles and cut few branches.
But you are right, it seems I removed more than 50 percent that is not advised.
I examined the tree beforehand and it looked pretty healthy and for quite a long time in that pot too, so I went as far as I did.
I think it is gonna be ok.
It was bought as a prebonsai material ready to be styled :)
