Good day 名媛直播 community,
I have this japanese maple and I am deciding whether I should keep the top part of the branch on the right or whether to airlayer it and make another little tree.
If I cut it off at the marked yellow point on the photo I would have a twin trunk with the apex on the left hand side, it may look better aesthetically.
Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.
Thank you
Nick

That would turn out pretty well.
I will be first to comment that it looks like the tree is indoors, and if left indoors it won't survive.

Dear Ivan, as many bonsai enthusiasts know well by now, Japanese maples are not an indoor bonsai species. It lives and grows very well in my garden!
This picture was taken against a white back drop to show the contrast of the removed branch.
Thank you for your comment.

quick question, is it possible to airlayer maples in winter?
Would new roots grow into the moss ball if i applied rooting hormone?
thanks!

Hard to tell what to do. What is the nebari like?
You would not get a twin trunkl for that, the split is too high.
I would serously consider removing the whole left trunk, possible as a layer.
Conventional wisdom sais it will not root in winter. That being said, I have started an airlayer in late december 2020 to see what happens if the tree is then kept frost-free. I noticed pretty much al my trees had active roots.
