First of all, how long have you had it? If it is less than a year, dont do anything than normal care.
If you allready have had it for a year or more, If not done allready. Decide your long term plan for the tree. Your vision. What is the style you are aiming at? What size do you want the end result to be? How thick do the trunk need to be to fit that hight in order to look like an old tree? Which branch do you need to grow as defining branch. How much backbudding do you need and where in order to get to your vision? The works, what do you want to do?
When all that questions is answered, then you will proboably know how to proceed. If not, you will have more specific questions to come back and discuss in the forum.
What you have is a blank canvas and you are the artist.
