Hey you guys!?
so I’m fairly new to bonsai, I have been caring for a variety of different plants for years now with good experience. I wanted to dip into bonsai-ing a Rhode Island Red Japanese maple that a friend had gifted me.?
I did a fair amount of research, and I followed all the correct steps in potting, buying good bonsai soil, and pruning the tree. I need help in styling and shaping the tree because I have no clue on where to start wiring the tree.
My trunk has a good thickness to it, but the way it stems and branches out is very weird. If someone could direct me and give me advice or guidance I would greatly appreciate the help! Below are some pictures of the tree.

How long have you had this tree?
Did it get a proper dormancy last winter?

I’ve had this tree for about 2 years now but didn’t do a thing to it til today. And yes, it’s had a full dormancy period and has turned bright red from the spring.?
It was in the process of turning green when I decided to bonsai it and give it a root trim and prune.?

The only time to re pot is when the tree is dormant. The shape to me is quite good, and I would not be changing a lot. The trunk is quite thin but for the height is ok, There may be a couple of branches that will need removing, but I would leave it to grow for a year or two

I kind of like the design. Only tree health would worry me. Just focus on after care this year. If you would like to change anything more, wait until next year. By then you would know what you want to do with it.
