I purchased this ficus bonsai about a year ago. After looking at many bonsai trees over the past year, I have noticed the flat cut at the top of the tree does not look very natural. Do you guys have advice on how to shape this? I am quite new to the design of a tree and struggle with where to make cuts. I pruned for the first time a few weeks ago which inspired lots of new growth. It caused lots of leaves to punch up and fill in at the top, which is quite amazing. What should I do with those large bunches of leaves? Thank you for the advice!

I haven't realized how thin my bonsai has become. Can someone help me understand what it needs?

It will need sunlight.
Once it picks up, fertilizer.

I am surpriced you kept it alive for over those 3/4years.
Did you repot it over those years?
Have you put your tree outdoors in summer, so it can get stronger in summer, and a bit weaker indoors in winter?

I did repot it roughly 1.5 years ago and I am about to repot again. It has always been indoors.

Give it a summer outdoors. I am sure you will be amazed what heppens.
But it is very important to do the transition slowly. It needs to get used to the sun.

you can start sunlight exposure by placing it in a shade where morning sun hits it and become shaded going the afternoon.
