Hello all,

I recently dig and took a root cutting from an Acer. It had couple leaves on it but most of the branches seemed dead to me. It was connected to the main thick root system which I cut while taking and also had its own roots but they are quite few. I placed it in shade with potting soil and Im keeping the tree moist. Is there a chance that it may survive? How can I keep it and if I can how long should I let it grow before training.

Seems unlikely this will live, but there's always a chance.

A couple of years. 10 years if you want something OK-ish, longer if you want something decent.

This acer looks like an oak to me.

I would also say oak.
