Hi,
It's been a while since my last post on this forum. I am still learning and slowly growing my trees for maybe some day future bosai.
Now I have new question for you.
Last year in late autumn, I've found an Acer which his previous ownes were just "cut it dead". Luckily I managed to save the last peace of it, and I put it in my garden over the winter. Now it began to grow some new leaves and hopfully some new brunches. The tree is very thick. At least 10 cm in diameter.
Should I leave it in my garden for another year, or is it better to take it out and put it in a pott??.
First time I needed few hours to dig it out. I am affraid, the roots wil grow to much in ground.
I already have one big pott ready for it. Not a bonsai pot - it is still basic plastic pott (40cm diameter and some 40cm deep). It will get a lot of soil and room to grow.
Some pictures are attached. When I foud it, the tree was alredy cut as you see. I didn't want to cut it any further but in case of succsess, I'll cut at least 20 cm more. Originally, the tree was 3-4 meters tall.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Is it healthy?
Are the new buds opening?
One option is to put it in a big colander or pond basket, so it grows but you have control of the roots.
Other possibility (some people do it this way, I have never tried it) is to put it in a colander and then the colander IN (not on) the ground; after some months, take it out of the ground (you will have to cut the roots outside, around the colander).
This is done usually to thicken the trunk even more, keeping the fine roots in check and helping the tree to recover.
After a season, pot it in a training pot.

I would leave it in the ground for at least a year. Get the tree to get strong again. Then you can move it. The roots will not get thick that quick.

It looks healthy to me.
In Autumn there was only one bud I managed to save, but now I can count almost 20 of them and they keeps appearing. They look healthy red color and they are opening. I am expecting some crazy growth. Will leave it in ground to get as many new brunches as it can get.
When I dig it out last autumn, I cuts away a lot off roots, so there is maybe the best to renew them in ground.
