I've had an indoor variagated ficus for a little over a year now. It's nearly tripled in size since I got it, and it looked great until about two weeks ago when I repotted it. Basically, I kept it in the same pot but changed the soil, and brought some of the larger roots out from the soil a bit to give a larger appearance to the trunk.
Since then, leaves close to the trunk have started to turn brown and are beginning to drop. I haven't changed watering habits at all. Could this just be a symptom of repotting that I should expect to go away? Or might there be something else at work? Should also mention that I trimmed some of the smaller limbs near the bottom, but they were VERY small so I doubt it's that.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!bk95 wrote: Hi all, first post here.
Variegated are weaker than regular Ficus, could be that.bk95 wrote: I've had an indoor variagated ficus for a little over a year now.
Repotting always is stressful for the plant. But Ficus are easy, I am sure it will recover, just give it some time.bk95 wrote: Since then, leaves close to the trunk have started to turn brown and are beginning to drop. What exactly do you mean that variagated ficus are "weaker"? Can you elaborate on that?
Also can you comment on whether or not it's safe for me to raise some of the top roots up a bit above the soil like I mentioned? I'll post pix later, but basically there's just some roots that are now slightly exposed. Could that open the plant up to drying out?
Thanks, again

As the myth goes...bk95 wrote: What exactly do you mean that variagated ficus are "weaker"? Can you elaborate on that?
"Variegated plants grow at a slower rate than other plants, thus in order to grow healthily they need to be cared for properly. The slow growth is due to the fact the variegated plants don't produce as much chlorophyll; hence it prevents the variegated plants from converting sunlight into sugar."
That shouldn't be a problem in itself, but again, some pictures would help a lot.bk95 wrote: Also can you comment on whether or not it's safe for me to raise some of the top roots up a bit above the soil ?

Don't move it around (Ficus hate being moved), water properly and be patient.
