Hi, I have an old spruce with a lot of deadwood I have worked very hard on this summer. However, the soil is COMPLETELY decomposed, and it caused a lot of rot in the trunk that took me weeks and specialty tools to clear out. Most of that was pooling from not being on a mount, and a total lack of drainage. The pot is also WAY too deep, but I do have a nice round shallow one to replace it. I know it is late in the game for a zone 6 transplant, especially NOT a slip repotting, but I have a greenhouse I can extend the growing period by at least a month. It can also keep the space between 33 and 40 F degrees all winter with a thermostat and heater, so no risk of freezing the roots to death like last winter.
The soil mix I was going to use was medium sized, half Akadama and half lava rock, with some pine bark fines thrown in. I also have powerful auxin plant hormone solutions, and fungal.bacterial root inoculants.
What do you think, is it worth it?

Nope, not worth the risk. Just keep it from being flooded with rain.
