I use whatever cheap liquid general purpose fertiliser I can find, once every week to 10 days, combined with a few times per growing season a good dose of dried horse/cow/chicken manure

Sorry to keep bothering you about this little tree. Upon a close examination, the roots are starting to really pop out of the soil. Like....a lot. I dont know if this is horrible, but there is this big ball of roots that are completely exposed. It might need to be repotted - I tried just covering the ball in bonsai soil, but it gets washed away. What do yall think? I can do the repotting gently, I have a little rake and all that.

If they are not dry, cover them up with bonsai soil and an upper layer of sphagnum till Spring and repotting time.
But...
It looks like you WANT to repot it anyway...

I *do* want to repot, I have since I bought the thing.
The roots are dry, but pliable. I don't think they will survive the summer, especially when the heat gets into the high 90s.
That's a cool tree in your picture, Clicio. Is it a mimosa?

Its been a while, and I wanted to give you an update on my tree (potted, rooted cutting). I have attached photos of the tree, and of the reason I have reached back out - the roots.

I mentioned several times ago that the roots were beginning to come out of the dirt they were jammed into, and this persists. Lots of roots are not in plain view, and I think that with a moderate tug, the whole root ball would come out of the dirt. The roots are obviously in different soil than the dirt it was planted in. I'm just not sure how to handle this thing. I'm still very much a noob, after all!

Looking at the picture it seems to me it does not concern new roots growing out of the dirt, but the dirt being flushed away, out of the pot.
I'd take some soil and cover them.
