Hansen, ajburns1, I am not anyones advocate, but Auk has been contributing to this forum for a long time, and he's been helpful for a lot of new people.
There is a direct way of saying things with no sugar coating that is very... Dutch.
At first, it seems blunt, perhaps arrogant, but in fact most of the times this represents the truth about the matter in question, and Auk is humble enough to admit when he is wrong and has done that (admit it) many times.
Besides that...No one here likes vendors (sellers) that rip off beginners, and Auk speaks it out loud against them.
One way to handle this is just take his advice on a positive way.
Enjoy your journey, guys!

Am I the only one who considers it quite arrogant and rude to sign up on a forum and to then start telling people off?

If I were to sign up here to just post rude comments then yes absolutely, but that wasn't the case at all. I turned to this forum as someone just getting into bonsai and looking for those with more experience to give advice. I get it, Auk has a 'no apology' attitude and that's fine, but I will defend myself when someone tries to belittle or talk down to me; In my eyes that's what was happening, so if I was wrong then I apologize.
WITH THAT BEING SAID, this has been an extremely drawn out thread. I want to end it by saying I truly appreciate everyone, including Auk, for their advice and I'm looking forward to being an active member here.

Agreed, and it's why I stopped responding. Thanks, let's end this indeed. Welcome to the forum.
