I have aFig tree that is seven years old and has been growing in regular potting soil. I am turning it into a bonsai plant. I am aware of how to use a root rake, but wanted to know if you can use a hose to get the hard to reach areas, especially if the plant has been in the ground and there are clumps of dirt that you can't get out? (This happened to an Azalea bush that was in the ground.) Pros and cons on using the hose?

Just to make sure.. You are in a place which is warm? Ficus reponds best under warm conditions.

Downside is that you do a lot of damage to the surface of the roots. I do not use a hose anymore. I might soak and wash in a tub of water. But I do not pressure wash the roots anymore.

Not yet. I live in the States, Pennsylvania. Days are in the high 50s And nights are in the 40s. it is spring.

I used the hose on my Azalea bush And I'm worried that I hurt it. Before and after pictures are below.

I am also getting ready to transplant my fig tree and I'm trying to figure out a new way to take out the dirt between the roots. I wasn't planning on turning it into a 名媛直播 is planted in just top soil. picture below.

Thanks, leatherback!

I thought I should replant my fruit fig tree into a bonsai pot before it starts to grow new leaves? Am I wrong? I am going to be cutting the roots and thought it should still be dormant.

I would leave it in the big pot for a few more years to grow it bigger and stronger. Once in a small pot the thickening of the trunk slows down considerably.

When I do transplant it when should I do it? Should it be late winter early spring when it is still dormant?
Thanks
