I decided to switch the azaleas off of akadama and onto kanuma, following lots of discussion here on the Empire.

So, I ordered a bag of kanuma. There wasn't enough for all the azaleas (some of which were pretty big) so I ordered another.

In the first bag the pellets were all light yellow and crushed to powder pretty easily. The second bag the pellets are all dark brown and pretty firm.

Is there that much variation between kanuma? Is one of them better for the azaleas?

Can you post the pictures of the bags you bought?

Hummm, very weird, Ivan.
All of the Kanuma bags I've used had light yellow pellets inside, very yellow when wet, very light in weight.
Dark brown usually is Akadama (when wet).
My azaleas love Kanuma by the way.

The first bag is gone. It had mostly Japanese with Kanuma in Roman letters.

The second bag is just a silver colored sealed bag with no writing in any language. The pellets are not rough like akadama.

I don't think I will buy something in an unmarked bag again.

That was way i was asking about the bags, because i have seen some 'imitation looking' bags online when searching for cheap kanuma.

I couldn't remember where I got the first bsg. Then, after the second one arrived, I got an email from Superfly asking if I wanted another bag. Sigh. Next year I will remember.
